How to Comply with the Federal Trade Commission’s
New “Red Flags Rule”

A 90-Minute Lunch & Learn Audio-Conference by
Elizabeth E. Hogue, Esq. Health Care Attorney & Consultant, Washington, D.C. (see Elizabeth’s biography at: https://www.assnoffice.com/Hoguebio.pdf)

Audio-Conference Description
On May 1, 2009, the Federal Trade Commission will begin enforcing its new Red Flags Rule. This Rule was created to ensure that certain types of organizations do everything in their power to identify, prevent, and reduce incidences of identity theft. The Rule is based on the perception that health care providers may have many opportunities in their day-to-day operations to discover the “red flags” of identity theft. Some health care providers, therefore, may be subject to this Rule, which requires that businesses develop identity theft programs tailored to the characteristics and needs of their organizations. The purpose of this audio-conference is to assist providers of all types, including individual providers such as physical therapists, home health agencies, private duty agencies, and others to comply. The emphasis will be on achieving compliance by using strategies that are as efficient and effective as possible. The content will include a clear identification of steps providers must take to comply, including development and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures, approval by the governing body and initial training of staff members. Participation in this audio-conference will satisfy the training requirement of the Rule.
Your organization is required to comply with the Red Flags Rule only if both of the following requirements are met: to read more, please see pdf here: Red Flag Audio Conference (PDF)
